Social Work Professors Highlighted in UN University Publication on Best Practices in Health Education
Dr. Eva Moya, Interim Chair and Associate Professor of Social Work and Dr. Mark Lusk, Provost's Faculty Fellow for Civic Engagement and Professor of Social Work, were featured in the recent UNU-IAS publication "Ensure Healthy Lives and Promote Well-Being for All: Experiences of Community Healthy, Hygiene, Sanitation and Nutrition," (pgs.41-43). The book, which is third in a series produced by the Education for Sustainable Development Program, presented a series of case studies showcasing sustainability initiatives in the areas of health, including determinants and drivers of health such as hygiene, sanitation and nutrition. The book highlighted Dr. Moya's work with the El Paso Opportunity Center for the Homeless, specifically in the creation of visual essays designed to inform policy makers about the common challenges of the homeless population in El Paso. The publication also featured Dr. Lusk's advocacy work for the migrant population in the El Paso-Ciudad Juarez area, specifically among the clients of the Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center in El Paso and Casa Del Migrante group in Ciudad Juarez.
