Applications are generally accepted during the months of August, November and April of each year. If interested, be sure to apply All employment appointments end in August of each year regardless of when students are hired on. Current employees seeking to continue employment must reapply. Job Descriptions

ACES Associate

• Responsibilities: Facilitate all necessary projects and tasks associated with maintaining a functional and clean facility. Assist the Director with projects, reports, and ad-hoc events that come through the College of Engineering's Dean's Office. Support other programs in the College of Engineering including faculty, staff, students, and outside constituents.

• Knowledge, skills, and abilities: self-motivated, able to learn quickly, adapt quickly to change, and work effectively under ambiguous conditions with little supervision. Ability to work independently and lead a team. Effectively use MS Office & Outlook.

• Preferred: Freshmen or sophomore eager to gain experience.

ACES Hybrid Tutor

• Responsibilities: Assist students in achieving a better understanding in a specific subject. Help develop confidence and a positive attitude toward school. Facilitate and assist in ACES operations (e.g. collect and process data). Be able to work in a team environment to support tutoring in both a person-to-person and virtual level.

• Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Tutors should want to help others reach academic achievement, and show a proficiency in particular subjects (i.e. Calculus I and II and Physics I). Self-motivated, willing to learn, adapt quickly to change, and work effectively under ambiguous conditions with little to no supervision. Must have excellent people and customer skills.

• Preferred: Bilingual; undergraduate Engineering/Computer Science major; preferred Sophomores and above. Knowledge of iMovie, Windows Movie Maker or similar software.

Engineering Ambassador

• Responsibilities: Manage a region of 1 to 4 high schools in the El Paso region to establish and maintain relations with math/science teachers to identify engineering/computer science student candidates. Work part of a team that makes available a menu of services that parallel outreach/retention efforts of the College. Other K-12 outreach projects & tasks as assigned and directed by supervisor including trainings. Support other programs in the College of Engineering including faculty, staff, students, and outside constituents.

• Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Any engineering/Computer science major. Self-motivated, willing to learn, adapt quickly to change, and work effectively under very ambiguous conditions with little supervision. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong communication skills (writing, interpersonal skills, and public speaking), and attention to detail. Desire to assist fellow students in the areas of development, retention and student success. Effectively use of MS Excel.

• Preferred: Bilingual; reliable transportation; undergraduate Engineering/Computer Science major; Sophomore thru Juniors

Engineering Peer Advisor

• Responsibilities: Assist their peers with information, resources, and referrals, as well as in representing the College of Engineering and its Departments. Connect students to resources by working with fellow students, staff, faculty, and professional staff around the University. Other projects & tasks as assigned and directed by supervisor including trainings.

• Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Any engineering/Computer science major. Self-motivated, willing to learn, adapt quickly to change, and work effectively under very ambiguous conditions with little supervision. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong communication skills (writing, interpersonal skills, and public speaking), and attention to detail. Desire to assist fellow students in the areas of development, retention and student success. Effectively use of MS Excel.

• Preferred: Undergraduate Engineering/Computer Science major with at least 6 hours of upper division work; ~3.0 GPA

Engineering Programs Work-study/E-PASO Associate

• Responsibilities: Provide clerical and administrative support to office of Engineering Programs for Achievement, Success and Opportunity (E-PASO) and related entities. Maintain a high degree of confidentiality on all sensitive information privy to. Mange telephone calls/visitors and ascertain who can be service them best. Maintains supply inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level. Provide information to customers and fellow employees. Operates computer terminal to input and retrieve data. Other duties as assigned by supervisor which include support ACES and the Engineering Dean's Office. Comply with all State and University policies.

• Knowledge, skills, and abilities: self-motivated, willing to learn, adapt quickly to change, and complete tasks quickly and without error; ability to speak to students and staff effectively in English and Spanish; effectively use MS Office & Outlook email and calendar systems.

ExciTES Summer Intern

• Responsibilities: facilitate engineering and science modules that are part of the larger ExciTES program which targets middle thru high school students. Other projects & tasks as assigned and directed by supervisor including trainings.

• Knowledge, skills, and abilities: self-motivated to work and accomplish tasks. Ability to adapt quickly to change, and work effectively under ambiguous conditions with little supervision. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Planning/organizing and teaching/classroom management skills desired. Effectively use MS Office & Outlook

• Preferred: Undergraduate Education/Engineering/Computer Science major; must have been enrolled full-time in fall and spring semesters; Freshmen or sophomore eager to gain experience.

Graphic Design Assistant

• Responsibilities: Assist with a variety of graphic design projects, college events and other duties and responsibilities as assigned

• Knowledge, skills, and abilities: self-motivated, willing to learn, adapt quickly to change, strong communication skills (writing, interpersonal skills) and attention to detail, effectively use MS Office and Adobe Suite.

• Preferred: Knowledge of iMovie, Windows Movie Maker or similar software to drive innovative concepts and ideas.

Nexus Intern

• Responsibilities: Transition knowledge from shadowing experiences to apply to random projects, college events and programs in the College of Engineering.

• Knowledge, skills, and abilities: self-motivated, willing to learn and willingness to adapt to change. Ability to commit to 120 hours during the summer months.
