  • Step 1: Find a Professional Practice Opportunity

    Start exploring career pathways by researching and learning about different career options to help determine which one aligns with one's interests, skills, and values. Follow the link below to find some resources:

  • Step 2: Start Your Professional Practice Proposal

    Click the link below to begin your Professional Practice Proposal. Your practice must offer substantial learning opportunities aligned with what you've learned in the E-Lead program. It should span the equivalent of eight full-time weeks, which can be completed over multiple summers or semesters.

    A practice copy of the Professional Practice Proposal form is available for you to use before filling out the online version.


  • Step 3: Await Approval After submitting your proposal

    Expect to hear back within two weeks via email regarding its approval status. You'll receive a copy of your application along with either approval or denial of your request.

  • Step 4: Complete Your Professional Practice

    Once approved, complete the equivalent of eight weeks of full-time work in your professional practice role.

  • Step 5: Mentor Evaluation

    Two weeks before the end of your professional practice, ensure your Engineering Leadership Professional Practice Mentor completes the evaluation form to provide feedback on your performance.

  • Step 6: Reflect on Your Experience

    After completing your practice, use the Post-Professional Practice Reflection form to document your experiences and confirm satisfactory completion of proposed activities.

  • Step 7: Register for the Course

    Upon approval, enroll in either EL 3003: (Professional Practice I) or EL 3005: (Professional Practice II) for the semester following your professional practice.
