Student Engagement with Technology Institute
Join us in a year-long course that meets strategically throughout the semester. The main purpose is to be a part of a community of practice that strives to improve student engagement in their courses using technology. We will meet throughout the year to discuss community building, engaging delivery of course materials, and exploration of important course concepts using technology. The goal is for faculty to provide an ever-evolving learning experience based on student feedback and learning management system analytics.
Friday, Sept 15th 11:30 am – 1:30 pm (Library 336)
This first meeting of the series will assist you with building a foundation for community and communication in your classes. We will focus on syllabus and course language and explore technology available at 成人头条 to ensure efficient communication with students. Resources for instructing students in the use of these technologies will be provided.
Friday, Oct 27th 11:30 am – 1:30 pm (Virtual)
This session will explore student collaboration strategies and approaches to help further build a sense of community in your courses. We will explore pedagogy and technology available to assist with building group discussions and collaborative activities. Resources for group management and instructions for technology will be provided.
Friday, Dec 1st 11:30 am – 1:30 pm (Library 336)
This session will explore ways to create or provide engaging course materials (including the syllabus) to increase their efficiency and accessibility. We will explore methods and technology available at 成人头条 to assist you with the process. Resources and student instructions will be provided.
Friday, Jan 26th 11:30 am – 1:30 pm (Virtual)
This session will explore different teaching modalities (hybrid, online, HyFlex, etc.) and how you can incorporate technology into your course, regardless of which you choose. We will look at synchronous and asynchronous delivery, as well as the different needs of these teaching modalities. Resources and student instructions will be provided.
Friday, Mar 8th 11:30 am – 1:30 pm (Library 336)
This session will explore different ways to engage students in their own learning and help them explore their professional and personal goals using S.M.A.R.T. Goals, gamification, Blackboard Student Progress Tracking, and other available technology. We will also discuss different strategies and tools available for peer review activities. Resources and student instructions will be provided.
Friday, Apr 26th 11:30 am – 1:30 pm (Virtual)
This session will explore various strategies and activities designed to increase student engagement with course materials and concepts. We will also explore creating more engaging (both visually and through the use of language) and meaningful rubrics to help students better understand course expectations. Resources and student instructions will be provided.
Friday, June 14th 11:30 am – 1:30 pm (Library 336)
This session will explore the tools available to help you analyze student performance and adjust your activities to better support student learning. We will also explore different methods of obtaining Student Evaluations of the course to get that important feedback on how your classes are being received. Resources and student instructions will be provided.
Friday, July 26th 11:30 am – 1:30 pm (Virtual)
This session will explore the SUNY Online Course Quality Review Rubric to help ensure that the technology elements of your course demonstrate and support high-quality instruction. This rubric helps you to examine your course for Overview and Information provided, Technology and Tools employed, Design and Layout, Content and Activities, Interactions, and Assessment and Feedback approaches. An interactive OSCQR scorecard will be provided.
These workshops will provide dedicated time to begin implementing the tools and techniques explored. Computers will be available for Face-to-face sessions, but you are welcome to bring your own device if you prefer. To gain the most from these sessions, we encourage you to have a course in mind where you can apply some of these lessons, a course you are teaching, or one you would like to teach.
Each meeting has a separate Registration, so be sure to sign up (select CFLD in the Browse by Unit option) for the sessions you would like to attend!
All meetings will be available online via Zoom; meetings marked On Campus will also be available in person.
Participation in all sessions (synchronously or asynchronously) will result in a certification.
