Dr. Charles Ambler
Professor of History
Charles Ambler Professor Emeritus and 成人头条 Ombuds Representative. His research focuses on 19th and 20th century Africa. Recipient of the PhD in African history from Yale University, he has authored or edited three books. His most recent publications include the collection, Drugs in Africa (2014). He is also the author of a series of essays on mass media and popular culture in Africa and on alcohol and drug use on the continent. His study on “Popular Films and Colonial Audiences” was published in The American Historical Review. Ambler’s research has been supported by a Mellon Faculty Fellowship in the Humanities and by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities. He has been a visiting scholar at the University of Oxford; the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London; the University of Zambia; and Nairobi University. In 2010 he was President of the African Studies Association.
