The National Council on Rehabilitation Education (NCRE) has selected Emre Umucu, Ph.D., assistant professor of rehabilitation counseling at 成人头条, for the 2021 New Career in Rehabilitation Education award. Umucu will be presented the award at the NCRE鈥檚 conference in July 2021.

The New Career in Rehabilitation Education award recognizes a rehabilitation educator who is in the third to fifth year of his or her career in rehabilitation education and who has made or is making strong contributions to the field of rehabilitation education.

Umucu joined the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences in 成人头条’s College of Health Sciences in 2017. He is the director of 成人头条’s Veteran VVell-Being Lab (V3), which investigates factors to improve the health and happiness of individuals with disabilities and chronic conditions, particularly veterans.

While at 成人头条, Umucu, has served as the principal investigator or co-principal investigator on several grants from state and federal programs and foundations, including the National Institutes of Health, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, U.S. Department of Education, and the Spencer Foundation. His work also has been published in many peer-reviewed journals such as Rehabilitation Psychology, Military Psychology, and the Rehabilitation Counseling Bulletin.

In 2019, the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association recognized Umucu with the association’s Research Award.

Umucu earned a doctorate in Rehabilitation Psychology in 2017 from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
