Rainwater Harvesting in El Paso Colonias
|
|
In 2020, CERM participated in EPA’s Border 2020 Program and completed rainwater harvesting demonstrations in three colonia homes. For the three installations, the amount of hauled water was reduced at the household level due to the collected rainfall being used to water landscaping. All residents were satisfied with the installations and saw the utility of rainwater harvesting. At a community level, neighbors have seen the installations and now want rainwater harvesting installations themselves. Some have contacted us for assistance in installing systems at their home. At a state and regional level, several agencies, NGOs, and private entities have heard about our success and are interested in either replicating it elsewhere or turning it into an economic opportunity. Some of these include: Dig Deep (California NGO), Texas Water Trade (NGO), Xylem (private company), Quantified Ventures (private company), and Richard’s Rainwater (private company).
