ABOUT THE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN EDUCATION (BSED)
Early Childhood/Elementary, Middle School, and All-Level Special Education
The College of Education offers the Bachelor of Science in Education (BSED) for individuals who wish to become early childhood/elementary, middle school, or all-level special education Texas certified teachers. BSED students may choose from the following concentrations:
Primary Grades Education teacher certification options
- Elementary (EC-6) with ESL Certification [EESL]
- Elementary (EC-6) with Bilingual Certification [EBIL]
Middle-Grade teacher certification options
- Middle Grades (4-8) English Language Arts/Reading with ESL Certification [MLES]
- Middle Grades (4-8) English Language Arts/Reading and Social Studies with ESL Certification [MLSS]
- Middle Grades (4-8) Mathematics with ESL Certification [MMAE]
- Middle Grades (4-8) Mathematics and Science with ESL Certification [MMSC]
- Middle Grades (4-8) with ESL Supplemental Certification [MESL]
- Middle Grades (4-8) with Bilingual Certification [MBIL]
All-Levels Education teacher certification option
- Pk-12 Special Education [ASPE]
Early Childhood/Community Education Pathways (Non-Teaching certification option)
- Early Childhood Care and Education [ECCE]
- Education Community Studies [EDCS]
BSED students seeking Texas teacher certification will apply to the Educator Preparation Program (EPP). For more information, click on Admission Requirements and Program and Certification Requirements. Contact the to make an appointment with a Program Advisor.
Secondary and All-level Education
Students who are interested in becoming a high school or all-level education Texas certified teacher will enroll in a major that covers the content they will teach (e.g., Art: Major in Art with the College of Liberal Arts) and pursue a minor or concentration with the College of Education.
