Human Resources recognizes the importance of providing managers with the proper tools and resources when handling employee performance and conduct. Disciplinary Actions
Every employee of the University is expected to know and understand the performance criteria for his or her job with all rules, procedures, and standards of conduct established by the Board of Regents, the University of Texas at El Paso, and the employee’s department or unit. An employee who does not fulfill the responsibilities set out by such performance criteria, rules, procedures, and standards of conduct may be subject to adverse personnel action.
Criteria for Classified employees are established by the UT System’s Board of Regents. Discipline/dismissal procedures must be followed according to the Handbook of Operating Procedures. Discipline/dismissal procedures for Administrative and Professional (A&P) employees are “at the pleasure of the president”. The termination process is established by Texas law.
Supervisors at UT El Paso are expected to manage:

- Behavior/Conduct
- Attendance
Disciplinary progression for Classified employees is as follows:
- Probationary Period
- Verbal
- Written
- Intent to Suspend
- Suspension
- Intent to Terminate
- Termination
Disciplinary progression for Administrative and Professional (A & P) employees is as follows:
- Documentation regarding corrective measures towards disciplinary actions.
