First-Year Composition Program
Welcome to the First-Year Composition program at the University of Texas at El Paso. ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ’s composition program is dedicated to helping students acquire and develop the composing abilities they need to succeed in their academic careers, their future professions, their civic responsibilities, and their lives generally.
We have many exciting changes and developments in the composition program. Our first-semester course engages students in a variety of discourse communities and teaches them to compose in a variety of genres and media. In our second-semester course, we offer a newly revised multi-modal curriculum and hybrid courses.
Our Teaching Assistants spend their first year enrolled in Composition Theory and Pedagogy, tutoring in the University Writing Center, and observing classroom instruction and activities. After acquiring 18 hours of graduate credits in English, they are able to teach composition courses.
