Solidarity Statement
As faculty members in the Department of Public Health Sciences, located in our rich bi-national and cosmopolitan border region, we are dedicated to elevating the health and well-being of all people. We abide by the professional ethical principle that we must act on the basis of what we know, and that "knowledge is not morally neutral." We stand against all forms of human oppression, social injustice, violence, and brutality. Most importantly, we acknowledge the long history that has created systemic racism, leading to the recent disturbing acts of police brutality. We make the commitment to reflect and learn of our own implicit bias and privilege, and to learn to be allies to the #BlackLivesMatter movement, and other movements that promote racial and social justice.
