Certification Programs
Alternative Certification Program (ACP)
The College of Education offers a nontraditional route to certification through the Alternative Certification Program (ACP). The program, which may be completed within 18-24 months, offers training in more than 25 certification areas and various levels. The ACP is an attractive option for individuals who hold a baccalaureate degree in a discipline other than Education or students who are interested in teaching while completing certification requirements. Additionally, ACP students complete graduate-level coursework, which may be applied towards a master’s degree.
Professional Certificates
The College of Education is accredited and approved by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to prepare candidates to become campus/district administrators and student service professionals in 10 different fields. Students interested in pursuing a professional certificate must formally apply and meet graduate school admission criterion for the master’s program housing the selected certificate below in addition to applying to the preparation program through the College of Education. Principal Certification
The Principal Certification Program is available to students who have completed the M.Ed. in Educational Administration in the department as well as to students with a master's degree from another related field.
Superintendent Certification
The Department of Educational Leadership and Foundations offers a Superintendent Preparation/Certification Program.
Notification of potential ineligibility for certification
Any individual who has been convicted of an offense may be ineligible for issuance of a certificate upon completion of the Educator Preparation Program. For more information, please refer to the State Board of Educator Certification (SBEC) rules prescribed in . Individuals have the right to request a criminal history evaluation letter as provided in (relating to Preliminary Evaluation of Certification Eligibility).
