Project Focus and Goal
The overarching goal of the "成人头条 Hispanic Servingness Program for Equity in Student Health and Success" is to advance 成人头条 students' post-secondary success and quality of life through strengthening equity in access, engagement, retention, and achievement while also addressing social and emotional learning needs. This project is supported by a $3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education, spanning from October 2024 to September 2029.Significance of the Grant
The project uses evidence-based health and education interventions to support student needs and enhance access and success at the University of Texas at El Paso (成人头条). As a leading Hispanic-serving institution with 84% Hispanic student enrollment, 成人头条 will expand its student success initiatives through interdisciplinary interventions and evaluations guided by feedback from project partners and advisory board.Project Collaborators
This project represents an interdisciplinary collaboration between the College of Education and the College of Health Sciences. From the College of Education, the team includes Drs. Paul Carrola, Johana Rocha, Eunae Han, and Johannes M. Strobel. The team from the College of Health Sciences include Drs. Stacy A. Wagovich and Thenral Mangadu (Principal Investigator).Excitement Surrounding the Grant
This interdisciplinary collaboration, uniting the expertise of faculty from both the Health Sciences and Education colleges, is both exciting and innovative. We are thrilled to provide direct support to students through a holistic approach to increase their success and ensure their graduation. This funding will significantly impact students’ wellbeing and consequently, their ability to persist toward graduation by supporting them in areas that are not always visible or obvious. As educators, student equity, engagement and retention are areas that we are passionate about; thus, we are especially enthusiastic about integrating our projects’ interventions with initiatives that focus on social and emotional wellbeing.
