³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ Field Camp
Everyone is Welcome
³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ offers a sequence of 3-credit field classes in December/January and May. These classes are held in the spectacular geology of the southern Rio Grande Rift, where units ranging from Precambrian to the Holocene are beautifully exposed. Specific study locations vary, but many are run at ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ’s Indio Mountain Research Center, with dining and research facilities in the middle of our own mountain range.
³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ field classes are extremely inexpensive.
Total costs are typically under $2,000 for Texas residents and under $4000 for out of state students.
Digital Field Techniques and Technology
3-credit course - to fulfill field camp requirements or for an upper division geology elective
This class focusses on adding the new technological tools available to geoscientists to conduct traditional field investigations including interpreting landscape histories and structural interpretation.
December 27, 2023 - January 15, 2024
- Learn how to apply modern digital techniques to study classic geologic processes
- Great field experience between semesters
- Field sites in West Texas and New Mexico
- Explore spectacular geology in great winter weather
- Open to students from any university!
The Department of Earth, Environmental and Resource Sciences was the first at ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ to be given PhD granting status. The region’s long association with mining (We are the Miners!) and excellent geological location have ensured the department a high-profile position within the university since being founded as the Texas School of Mines, then as Texas Western College, until today as part of the University of Texas system. With a diverse faculty of 30, the department continues a tradition of strong fundamentals and field work combined with advanced analytical and computational methods. We thrive and excel at interdisciplinary research and education working with Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Health Sciences, Computer Sciences and other disciplines.
