Internships
Generous gifts from President Emerita Natalicio and the Rockefeller Foundation have established an endowment at 成人头条 to support environmental education through funded internships for 成人头条 students. The goal of the internship program is to provide 成人头条 students a professional experience in research, education, or outreach focused on environmental science, especially in the border region. The long-term intended outcome is that the number of 成人头条 students choosing to undertake graduate studies or a career in environmental science or related fields will increase, and students will be better prepared to enter graduate school or professional careers in environmental science and related fields. The 成人头条 Center for Environmental Resource Management (CERM) manages the funds and the internship selection process.
Recruitment and Selection
The deadline to apply for the Diana Natalicio Environmental Internships is November 29, 2024 for internships in the coming calendar year (spring and fall semester, 2025 and summer, 2025). We aim to fund at least two internships in 2024, either at half-time (20 hrs/week during spring or fall) or full-time (40 hrs/week) in summer, 10 weeks long). Students with any academic backgrounds and interests that overlap with the environmental sciences are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to students with interests in environmental issues in the US-Mexico border region.
Applicants must be registered at 成人头条 as a junior or senior undergraduate or a graduate student pursuing a Masters degree. Students working on a Ph.D. degree are not eligible. To be considered, applicants have to have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or more. Applicants will be reviewed by a committee of faculty members and the Director of CERM. Successful candidates will be chosen based on academic background and performance and their personal statement.
Stipends
Stipends: CERM will pay stipends from the Diana Natalicio Environmental Education Endowment: $3200/semester for half-time interns and $4000/summer term for full-time interns. In addition to local opportunities, internship experiences will be available from locations outside of El Paso (i.e. Washington DC or other cities in Texas, etc.). In such cases where students will be required to travel to locations outside of El Paso or will need lodging and subsistence, CERM will solicit support from hosts or provide additional funding for these circumstances through grants or gifts, on a case-by-case basis.
Other
CERM will provide a half-day orientation/preparatory workshop for the successful candidates who are chosen for an internship. Participation in this workshop will be required before students start an internship.
