Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE)
From the ACPE Standards 2016, “IPPEs expose students to common contemporary U.S. practice models, including interprofessional practice involving shared patient care decision-making, professional ethics and expected behaviors, and direct patient care activities. IPPEs are structured and sequenced to intentionally develop in students a clear understanding of what constitutes exemplary pharmacy practice in the U.S. prior to beginning APPE.”
IPPE course work will be integrated within didactic courses from P1 Fall through P3 Spring and as two individual courses (community and institutional IPPE). All IPPE requirements will need to be completed to pass the course and progress through the pharmacy curriculum. Additionally, the student must progress through the didactic curriculum before progressing through to the individual IPPE course (e.g. P1 coursework must be completed prior to the Community IPPE). All Introductory to Pharmacy Practice Experiences will be completed in the El Paso region.
Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE)
Students accumulate the majority of the internship hours required for licensure through the Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) courses, which occur during the last year (P4) of the curriculum. The 成人头条 SOP has a practice facility network that stems from the SOP's origination as a Cooperative Pharmacy Program with UT Austin in which APPE experiences have been in place in our region for 15 years before the SOP formation. Students will complete a minimum of seven 6-week rotations.
The APPE rotations during the P4 year provide the 成人头条 SOP student with intensive involvement in ongoing professional pharmacy services; interaction with fellow students in nursing, medicine, and other disciplines; opportunities to measure one's true capacity for professional achievement in a variety of innovative patient care environments; as well as opportunities to pursue special interests. This is a truly stimulating, exciting, and challenging experience and one to set you up for success as a future pharmacist. All Advanced Practice Experiences will be completed in the El Paso region with opportunities to travel beyond the region for additional experiences.
